A phone rings, you pick up. On one end of the line - a subject, on the other end - an object, and in between them XXXX TOPOGRAPHY. Welcome to Pink’s Space Bar where the drinks are expensive, the objects are cheap and books are on the house.
XXXX TOPOGRAPHY (pronounced “sexy sexy sexy sexy topography”) is a new work of Imaginary Theatre that flirts with the radical otherness prowling somewhere between you and not you.
Each night, somewhere in this vast cosmos, Pink’s Space Bar snaps into existence, formed by the telepathic world-making of an assemblage (performers Andrea Cownden, Emmalena Fredriksson, Deanna Peters, Rianne Svelnis, Lexi Vajda and Paul Paroczai). The bar lasts only as long as the assemblage languages it into being, closing each night as puzzlingly as it opened. For two nights only, Pink’s Bar will materialize in the dismal school halls of a university you’ve probably heard of. There, a spongy yet seductive encounter between humans, things, and others oscillates into XXXX TOPOGRAPHY. Pillows tell bedtime stories; a sarcastic couch misunderstands the talking cure; and love letters go missing.
Regardless of mysteries, owner/operator Beta Pink keeps things sociable with a rambunctious improvised electronic score performed by tiny robots and Paul Paroczai, telephonic connections between guests and objects, and a soft sparkly atmosphere.
